I did the copper workshop with Vibol and Haystome. I loved it so much I went twice! There are so many reasons why the experience with Haystome is so special, their team is helpful and friendly, the classes are intimate, the craft is interesting and you couldn’t get this experience any other way. The best thing about it is meeting the artist, Vibol is so passionate about copper carving and keeping this traditional skill alive. Plus, the Haystome team were on hand to translate. Highly recommend and makes a great gift for someone!

Meet the Artisan

“Hello my name is Nara. I am pleased to welcome you to see my silk workshop that is passed down by my family for generations.”

Nara is a silk weaving artisan who raises silkworm herself and do silk weaving to produce silk products. She has been doing this for 38 years since she was a kid as her mom and dad were the Khmer Rouge survivors. After freed from Khmer rouge, Nara’s family has been making a living out of silk weaving. Thus, she adopted the skills from her family and been working on producing silks with qualified handmade products in Cambodia. When Nara was a kid, she does not get much time to learn English; she was practicing her English with guests who had visited her to improve her English. That’s how Nara made friends. Now, in Svay Chrum, a suburb of Phnom Penh, Nara is opening a workshop to welcome guests who want to know more about her and what she does. She aims to promote Khmer Traditional art of silk weaving to the world, “I love what I do no matter how many times I stopped before, today I still keep working on it because of you.
