I did the copper workshop with Vibol and Haystome. I loved it so much I went twice! There are so many reasons why the experience with Haystome is so special, their team is helpful and friendly, the classes are intimate, the craft is interesting and you couldn’t get this experience any other way. The best thing about it is meeting the artist, Vibol is so passionate about copper carving and keeping this traditional skill alive. Plus, the Haystome team were on hand to translate. Highly recommend and makes a great gift for someone!

Meet the Artisan

“Greetings from Champey. I am a dancing teacher. Me and other artisans welcome you to our workshop.”

In total there are around 30 artisans who are working at Champey. Different artisans gather from all around Phnom Penh and other closed provinces to work in Champey to build an art school where they can promote Cambodians’ art to both Khmer people and international tourists. As a matter of fact, Bopha is a dancing teacher who is passionate about traditional dance and she has practiced it for years. Now she wants to spread it to the world about her Khmer art. Thus, she teaches at Champey. All local students are offered free study there. The only source of revenues are from selling the products and host workshops. Bopha stated, “Well, when we share what we love doings to others, most of the time they have fun and love it. I will keep sharing this Khmer traditional dance to everyone”. Bring your phone/camera; I am sure you do not want to miss taking good pictures.
